lost in corporate crowd

Posted by Unknown at 6:41 AM
today is the day that i felt really small and insignificant. like i was a fly or an ant or perhaps a bacteria! me and two other friends, tikah and kak ella went to a talk hosted by Intel Co. well, basically our lecturer invited us. being the really dumb person i am or maybe we were, we said yes and stupidly tagged along. at first we didn't think going to that talk would be some of a big deal for college students like us. the talk was about Intel's corporate social responsibility's development and stuff. we thought since we're gonna have to do presentations in front of board directors of various multi-national corporations, it would be somewhat helpful to attend this talk. luckily it was helpful though. but that's not the point. the point is, i dunno about you guys, but i think we look like the three stooges. i thought we look kinda dumb and lost and not knowing what to do. it was like really hard to mingle around the crowds. why is this? i'll tell ya why. it is because, everyone who attended the talk were people from the corporate world (sadly, not our world). not to mention there were CEOs, vice president of Intel Co. worldwide and some other positions i don't know of. but i think it's safe to say that these are some really well-connected, well-established, and well-known individuals in the world of corporate business. and suddenly, somewhere along the crowd stood three little stooges looking like misfits. it was hard enough to create a conversation with them, let along invite them to our upcoming seminars. plus, we could barely speak their language (business language). but somehow, it had to be done and we gathered all the courage we had left and began to strike up small conversations with few of them. so we basically introduced ourselves and then started promoting our event. and somewhere along the way we managed to talk about some other things which don't involve CSR.

maybe we did look dumb. but the point is that confidence is important. it really is essential in order to survive in a situation like ours. no matter how small and insignificant you are, you gotta have the courage. in our case, it is the courage to talk to people that were ultimately superior than us in every aspects. knowledge, experience, social status, etc.

btw, tikah and kak ella, you guys have no idea how blurred and lost we look today. i could see it in your eyes, your behavior, even your expression. haha... well, still today we learned our lessons.

keep up guys!
do come to our seminars next week
