the one with sustainable development

i'm feeling GREEN today peeps!! haha.. a lot more greener after listening to Prof. Dato' Omar Osman's (deputy vice chancellor of USM) speech regarding sustainability and project management. it was a public lecture in conjunction with his inauguration as professor. Congratulations Dato' ! received an invitation to attend the inauguration as a representative of our club. so like it or not, it was compulsory. kinda lazy at first to go but considering no one else was around, i went anyway *nsb baik pergi, xrugi*.

i remembered back in my 1st year, 1st semester in USM, we had huge project called Projek Warga. it was really huge that the finale was held with the panelists being all the deputy vice chancellors. i was so scared because our little group was one of the finalists. glad at the same time because we made it through to the last stage. we had to present our project not just in front of the big people but also in front of the whole School of Social Sciences. can't even remember how friggin' nervous i was on the day of the event. but it went well though.. i talked fast of course *sbb adrenaline bnyk sgt* but overall it went well. went the time came for Q&A. he asked me *prof omar osman* about my sub-topic. i answered him.. quite well if i'm not mistaken. something about my answer that made the entire hall burst into laughter. i don't remember the question but it was about relationship smthg2.. *nyanyuk sudah!* haha. but because of the laughter, it eased me a little. hey, i am not that bad with crowds.. i thought i couldn't talk in front of people.. but hey, i'm getting pretty good at it since CSR.. hehe

anyway, back to the public lecture. what i admired about his lecture the most is how hard he has worked to get the word sustainability into the mindset of university students esp. USMs'. how he has involved himself in a lot of sustainable projects in order to get it well-recognized in Malaysia. the one thing that managed to impress me was Korea 2040. we are still stuck in our Vision 2020 while the South Korean government has already extended it's goal to 30 years from now.. he said we should at least target the outcome of our current and upcoming projects to a hundred years from now. so that not only our children, but also our grandchildren and so on can enjoy all the excitements and greatness of life. so that the future generations' interests are well-protected and well-governed. it is how we manage our projects today that will lead us to desirable outcomes. that's why one of the gist information of his lecture revolved around project management. inside it he listed the areas that needed attention like the institution itself, the governance, the talents, and so on. in order for there to be sustainable developments, the project management at the same time has to be sustainable too.

see how green i am today?? haha
